The Federal Reserve Board on Thursday requested public comment on a proposal to modernize its rules for mutual banking organizations.
The proposal aims to update regulations governing mutual banks, which are owned by their depositors and members rather than shareholders.
The Board said the changes would reduce regulatory burden and better reflect the current risk profile of these institutions.
Comments will be accepted for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.
