The European Central Bank (ECB) said on Thursday that the forthcoming digital euro app will be designed to meet the highest accessibility standards, making it usable for all citizens, including those with disabilities.
In a statement, the ECB emphasized that the app's development will follow inclusive design principles, ensuring that features such as screen readers, contrast settings, and easy navigation are integrated from the outset.
The announcement aligns with the EU's broader commitment to digital inclusion and accessibility, as outlined in the European Accessibility Act, which requires public sector bodies to ensure their digital services are accessible.
The ECB said it will work with user groups and accessibility experts to test the app and refine its features, aiming to deliver a user-friendly experience for everyone across the euro area.
