India has dismissed the ongoing local elections in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as a 'complete sham', with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) urging global organizations to act against the excesses faced by ordinary citizens.
At a weekly press briefing on Tuesday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, 'The so-called local elections in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir are a complete sham. The real situation is the public protests and the brutal killings by Pakistani forces. Such hollow claims are far from reality.'
The protests in PoK, led by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, began on 5 June. The demonstrations have drawn international attention due to the firing and repressive actions by Pakistani security forces against protesters.

Jaiswal highlighted the consequences of Pakistan's repressive policies in PoK, stating, 'In the ongoing public protests there, 90 people have been killed since June and many more injured. The authorities there have responded to public discontent with bullets, communication blackouts, repression, and threats.'
He called on the global community to see through Pakistan's 'hypocritical facade' and hold it accountable. 'Pakistan is now creating an illusion of legitimacy through hollow electoral exercises. It must be held accountable. The world community should see the reality behind Pakistan's hypocritical sermons on human rights,' he said.
The MEA spokesperson also addressed cross-border terrorism, referencing Operation Sindoor as a response to Pakistan's activities. He appealed to all countries to take strict action against cross-border terrorism and its supporters, and specifically urged Pakistan to eliminate terrorist infrastructure on its soil.
