Arsenal have taken a step closer to signing Bruno Guimaraes after Newcastle reportedly began talks with a potential replacement.
The Gunners saw an opening bid rejected by Newcastle on Monday but Standard Sport understands Guimaraes has expressed his desire to join Arsenal.
It has been reported elsewhere that the Brazil international has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract, with a deal expected in the coming days.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Newcastle have made their first concrete move for Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt by contacting his representatives.
However, any deal for Froholdt would be complicated by his £73.4 million release clause, and he has recently reaffirmed his commitment to Porto.
