An accused drug trafficker has faced a Ballarat court after allegedly being caught with a large quantity of methamphetamine.
Bradley Cassels, 33, faced the Ballarat Magistrates' Court via video link from custody on August 4, 2026, to answer to charges including trafficking a commercial quantity of a drug of dependence.
At Tuesday's brief hearing, defence lawyer Manny Brennan told the court his client was also charged with "quite a serious" driving matter and that police had allegedly found him in possession of 52 grams of methamphetamine.
Mr Brennan described the quantity as being "right on the borderline" of the commercial trafficking charge, which is defined as being 50 grams of pure methamphetamine or 250 grams of a mixed purity. The defence is waiting on the certificate of analysis of the drugs, which could affect the charge that eventually proceeds.
Magistrate Vicky Prapas ordered the prosecution to provide the certificate of analysis by September 18 and all other digital exhibits by August 31. Cassels was remanded in custody and will return to court on September 29.
