The first call to Hole in the Wall this summer came on July 24, when Alberni Valley Rescue Squad (AVRS) personnel were called to assist someone with a lower limb injury sustained during their hike. Arrowsmith SAR from Parksville/Qualicum provided SAR manager support, according to AVRS spokesperson Ashley Oscienny.
Current situation
On Saturday, Aug. 1, AVRS volunteers responded to an injured hiker at Hole in the Wall. Bystanders called 911, and AVRS was dispatched to assess the hiker. The person was transported by stretcher to a waiting BC EHS (ambulance) crew, said volunteer Amèlie Duquette.
The squad was called out again Monday, Aug. 3 for another rescue; no details were available for that call. This makes three calls in less than two weeks to the popular hiking spot.
AVRS members are urging caution: "Hole in the Wall is one of the Alberni Valley's most popular short hikes…however, with this being our third call to this location this season it's also one of the easiest places to get hurt if you let your guard down," Oscienny said.

The repeated incidents highlight risks for hikers of all levels. Oscienny cautioned visitors to wear proper footwear, slow down around the creek and waterfall if entering the water, and watch where they step.
