Retired US General Jack Keane, chairman of the Institute for the Study of War, said in a Fox News interview that Pakistani and Qatari mediators in US-Iran diplomacy are 'compromised' because they favour Iran at the expense of the United States.
Keane, who has advised four US defence secretaries, said this is a historical pattern and that their influence has misled Washington about Iran's real intentions.
He also criticised Saudi Arabia, alleging Riyadh repeatedly discouraged stronger US military action against Iran, including denying access to airbases and airspace during discussions over the Strait of Hormuz.
Keane said the Saudis are unwilling to risk casualties or damage to their oil infrastructure, expecting the US and Israel to bear the burden. He called it 'shameful' that they lack the spine to support the US president.
