A Taiwanese tourist says she was charged $1,200 in booking fees by a renowned Brisbane fine-dining restaurant, despite a confirmation email stating no such fees apply.
Sally Tsai, who dined at Restaurant Dan Arnold in Fortitude Valley on July 10, noticed three separate $400 charges on her statement after returning home. The charges were listed under the chef's name and spaced about 13 hours apart.
Tsai said only one payment was deducted from her final bill. She contacted the restaurant and its booking service, SevenRooms, for a refund. SevenRooms said restaurants handle their own charges, but Tsai said the restaurant has not responded.
Another customer told this masthead they had a similar issue but eventually received a refund. Tsai has lodged a complaint with the Office of Fair Trading, which is trying to mediate.
Chef Dan Arnold said the duplicate charges appeared to be from a third-party provider and that the restaurant never received extra money. He said the charges were disputed and being processed by the payment provider, and that the restaurant had been in communication with Tsai.
