South Korea's headline consumer inflation slowed to its weakest pace in three months in July, coming in below market forecasts, as declining crude oil prices helped cool price pressures.

The consumer price index rose 2.8% in July from a year earlier, the Ministry of Data and Statistics reported on Tuesday (4 Aug 2026), following a 3.2% increase in June. The figure was lower than the 3.0% median projection in a Reuters poll of economists.

The slowdown was driven by lower energy costs and softer domestic demand, according to the report. Despite the easing, monetary authorities have expressed caution about lingering upside risks to prices.

Financial markets still see a possibility of a consecutive interest rate increase at the central bank's upcoming policy meeting, following any move in the prior month.
