Megan McKenna has moved to Germany full-time after an armed break-in at her home left her too afraid to live in the UK alone. The former TOWIE star said the burglary changed where she felt safe staying, while her partner Oliver Burke was based in Germany.
Speaking on the Great Company With Jamie Laing podcast, McKenna said: 'I was robbed really badly in my own home.' The incident happened two years ago, shortly after she and Burke returned from their honeymoon in Montenegro.
McKenna said Burke flew back to Germany the day after landing in the UK, leaving her alone at their home when the break-in happened. She said the fear lasted long after the night itself, and that she no longer wanted to live in the UK on her own.
She described how three masked men armed with machetes and baseball bats broke through a false wall into her dressing room. She called police and was told not to confront them. During the break-in, she feared for her dog's safety, then later approached one of the men, who took her jewellery.
McKenna said she now locks her bedroom door every night, even two years later. She added: 'I don't talk about this with a lot of people because I was worried and scared at the time because people were in prison for it, and when there was a trial going on, so I wasn't able to talk about it.'
