The Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education has approved a continued partnership with Jamestown Community College and the Builders Exchange of the Southern Tier to offer adult education carpentry classes at the Innovation Center at Rogers School. The unanimous approval came during the board's most recent meeting.
Classes will run from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Aug. 3 through Sept. 1, and will be instructed by Jamestown High School technology teacher Daryl Damcott. The program began at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Kevin Whitaker said the partnership exemplifies the center's role in serving both students and the community. He noted other partnerships with JCC and a flight school at the airport, and said the district is working with local manufacturers to build more programs connecting hands-on instruction with regional employment opportunities.
The board also approved the appointment of Nicole Marino as assistant principal and program administrator of the Innovation Center. Whitaker said Marino's role will help expand the center's offerings and strengthen relationships with community partners, including El Greco and Blackstone.
The Innovation Center, established in 2023, is being developed into a career exploration hub for students across grade levels, with pathways in aviation, welding, construction, and other fields. The board also approved creating five teaching assistant positions.
