Background
The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has launched the seventh edition of its annual Protection Viewpoint survey, inviting mortgage and protection advisers to share their views on the evolving protection market.
The research is open to both AMI members and non-members until 28 August. It will examine how advisers support clients’ protection needs, the challenges they face in protection conversations, changing customer expectations, and opportunities to improve outcomes across the sector.
Current situation
AMI said the findings would help build a clearer picture of market trends and inform its future work to support advisers. The results will be unveiled at a virtual event on 5 November, held in partnership with Legal & General, The Exeter and Vitality.
AMI head of policy Stacy Penn said the research had become an important barometer of trends in the mortgage and protection market. “By taking part, advisers can help ensure this year’s findings reflect the realities of the market. Whether you are a mortgage adviser, protection adviser, or advise across both areas, we’d encourage you to complete the survey and share your experiences,” Penn said.
Impacts
AMI chair and Coreco managing director Andrew Montlake said advisers’ day-to-day interactions with clients provided valuable insight into evolving protection needs. “The AMI Protection Viewpoint research has helped me reflect on how I approach protection conversations with my clients, while providing insight into changing customer needs and the experiences of advisers across our market,” he added.
The survey uses adaptive questioning based on respondents’ answers and is open to advisers across the intermediary market. Participation could influence AMI’s future policy work and support for advisers, potentially shaping industry guidance and best practices.
Future outlook
Scenario analysis: The possibilities below are not certain predictions.
If the survey attracts a strong response, the findings could provide a more accurate picture of market trends, helping AMI tailor its support for advisers. The results may also highlight emerging challenges and opportunities in protection advice.
Depending on the responses, the 2026 edition could reveal shifts in customer expectations or adviser practices compared with previous years. However, the actual outcomes remain unclear until the results are published on 5 November.
