ATLANTA - A sluggish upper-level low pressure system will trigger daily rounds of afternoon showers and scattered thunderstorms across North Georgia and metro Atlanta through Friday, according to the FOX 5 Storm Team.
Rain chances ramp up each afternoon, reaching 60% on Tuesday and peaking at 70% on Wednesday, the wettest day. Highs will stay slightly below average in the mid-80s before weekend heat returns.
While severe weather is not expected to be widespread, isolated strong storms could bring gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours. No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently in effect.
Widespread rainfall totals of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected through Thursday evening, with localized higher amounts. Damp grounds and gusty winds may cause isolated downed trees and power outages.
Parents and students heading back to school should pack umbrellas or rain gear for afternoon bus stops and outdoor activities. Rain chances taper off by Friday, with highs climbing into the lower 90s over the weekend.
